THURSDAY NIGHT AT THE CASTRO THEATRE:

THURSDAY APRIL 3
BARBARELLA
7:00 Brave astronaut Barbarella, on a mission to thwart the evil Anita Pallenberg, survives the fabulous sex-torture machine by blowing its fuse with her orgasmic potency. Jane Fonda is the delectible comic-strip heroine and John Phillip Law is the blind angel who loves her. Critic John Simon called it, "elucubrated, anemic pornography." Whoa! With Milo O'Shea as Duran Duran. Written by Terry Southern. Directed by Roger Vadim. Cinematography by Claude Renoir. (1968) 98m.

CASINO ROYALE
9:00 Oh! Oh! Seven indeed. Have a Swingin' Sixties Spooferific time with this pre-ironic, post-iconic spy flick. A bouncy Bert Bacharach score enlivens the proceedings. With Peter Sellers, David Niven, Woody Allen, Ursula Andress, Joanna Pettet, William Holden, George Raft, Orson Welles, and many, many more. Directed by John Huston, Ken Hughes, Val Guest, and many, many more. Written by many, many people including uncredited contributions from Woody Allen, Ben Hecht, Joseph Heller, Terry Southern, Peter Sellers, and Billy Wilder! (1967) 130m.

Who else wanna go.
  • If I can get there in time for Barbarella somehow, I'm in, but that's not a definite.
  • Hmm..

I've actually never seen Barbarella. Adn I'd love to seee Casino Royale, big-screen style.

Can you buy tix in advance?
  • the last time i was at the castro was to see a screening of 'gone with the wind' -- that was, of course, a thousand years ago. it's nice to know they are still showing the best o the best.
    • Ah, the lovely Castro.

Hehehheh. I fondly remember my first film at the Castro- Fellini's Satyricon, with Fellini's Roma. Talk about a messed up first date!

I think they ran GWtW within the last 6 months or so. They've been showing weird-kitchy-fun stuff on Thursdays lately. Why? Who knows. But it's made for a few amusing outings w/ the folks on my friendslist. ;)
