British PM apologizes for UK's treatment of Alan Turing.

Dang. Nicely said, Mr. Brown. And nicely unequivocal.
  • Now that is quite awesome.
  • I want to cry every time I think about it. Just the words "chemical castration" upset me beyond words.

Thank God Mr Brown did this. I wish it hadn't come so, so bloody late.
    • I suspect that if it hadn't turned out the way it did, you & I wouldn't remember a time before the advent of the personal computer.
Brown did a heck of a lot more than I expected.
  • IU was genuinely moved. I expected the office to throw off a throw away line, no real attention. I never expected this.
    • it really did surprise me, too- same reason. I'd figured it'd be a quiet 'yeah that sucks let's move on' kinda deal instead of an outright denunciation of this inhumane behavior.
  • Thank you for posting this. I did not know who Alan Turing was until now. But I'm glad I do after your post.
    • And see, I suspect that your not knowing who he is is related to his Shameful Secret Life.

D'ya think that, if he was straight, the NATO folks wouldn't've paraded him around to scare the crap out of Kruschev?
      • And this is why it was so important

From his amazing work in World War 2 to his work in Chemistry to the very computers we're all using now - damn this man deserves to be remembered! You ask the average person in the street and they don't even know who he is?
