Okay, maybe it's just that it WAS like 53 degrees when I got on the plane and now it's 86, with some ridiculous humidity that makes me wonder if Missouri is actually an ocean.
  • (no subject) -
    • Oh, it's a weeet wet miserable nasty vile kind of heat. Not as bad as Tejastan gets, true, but way worse than Californistan even dreams of.
  • I think you may be on to something there. The midwestern states were all pissed off about being land locked so they created Air Oceans.

Ug. I remember that weather all too well and don't miss it a bit. You have my complete sympathy.
  • Heh. My SO is in Missouri. All that rain, I guess.

By the way, apropos of nothing, that icon is one of the greatest things ever. EVER.
  • WTF are you doing in that hellhole?

The humidity there is pretty lethal stuff. They paved over a lot of wetlands, so the wet hangs out in the air now.
    • Cousin's marriage tomorrow.
      Hoping for flood.
      • There's a lot to be said for tornadoes, too.

Best of luck. The Italian food might be okay.
        • Naw: WASPy & Pennsylvania Dutch couple.

In fact, this is the side of the family that features the lasagna recipe...
          ...Which calls for lasagna.
          • There are some pretty good Italian restaurants in the St Louis environs which have saved me from Germanic-American food overload in the past. And I have a soft spot for Steak'n'Shake, but this may be a childhood thing.

The last time I had to go Out There for a wedding, it transpired that the wedding itself was in MO, but the reception was in AK. On a farm. Or maybe it was a ranch.

On the way to said reception, we were not far over the border into AK when I saw an adopt-a-highway sign saying "This highway adopted by the Ku Klux Klan." The sign lacked bullet holes.

So there I was dressed for a church wedding, and not prepared to be in a pasture full of cow patties, mosquitoes, and more smoker grills than Brother-In-Law's. Surrounded by a lot of people from Arkansaw.

So really, it could be worse.
  • Despite being between Illinois and Kansas, Missouri has always felt "southern" to me. I've heard that many people south of a certain highway in Illinois consider people of northern Illinois "Yankees", and there is a strong affiliation for the confederacy to this day there.

In any case, safe travels. And thank you for "Midwestistan". One of my new favorite words I think. :)
    • I have escaped!
I agree that there's something very southern about Missouri, despite its obvious state of being in the Midwest.
