I'd forgotten how often we saw Magritte

"being powerful is like being a lady -- if you have to tell people you are, you aren't."

-Margaret Thatcher

(brought to you courtesy of the incisively-witted karjack)
  • I love this quote. It's so apt right now. :)
  • :) Reminds me of my favorite restaurant sign, in the probably-defunct Tina's Diner: "This is a high-class establishment, so please act respectable."
  • and what if you have to explain to people that you're not a lady, thank you very much; you're a woman?

(never mind me; i've just been having that fantasy where i get to make all the rules about how the world works, and i get to decide what different colors signify...)
    • Re:

I had wondered that exact same thing myself =)

My two bits: all ladies are women, not all women are ladies, just as all gentlemen are men, but not all men are gentlemen. I tend to view 'lady' as a politesse thing: a recognition of the addressee's sense of style, tact, politesse &c. Being a woman is a privilege of birth- being a lady is a choice, not a limitation. IMHO, both of you folks qualify as ladies... but you certainly have the privilege of not being ladies if you should choose.
